A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER

I founded Resume Pilots after studying business communication at Cornell University with leading professors in the field. I have been writing resumes and cover letters for executives, experienced professionals, and recent graduates for over 10 years.

While working in corporate roles for Fortune 500 companies, I noticed that otherwise qualified candidates were frequently rejected from interview opportunities due to poorly written resumes.

Though I formally studied business, I come from a writing background: I was a writer for a Chicago Tribune publication and served as a Communication Consultant at Cornell’s Communication Center, where I helped students craft their job-search materials.

I started Resume Pilots with a view to establish a resume writing service that top executives could trust. By leveraging my writing background and corporate experience, I built a team that consistently delivers writing excellence, superior service, and market expertise for our clients.

Our clients tend to be busy executives who either don’t have the time to prepare their documents or who are excellent at what they do but recognize that writing is not their strong suit.

We have successfully worked with a Fortune 500 CEO and CFO, CTO of a global technology company, COO of a transportation firm, and CSO of a SaaS company, among others.

I’m a Chicago native and currently split my time between Chicago and London, where I run our sister company, CV Pilots. My global, cross-sector experience enables us to effectively work with international applicants and expats seeking US and Canada-based positions.

    Why is your pricing higher than that of your competitors?

    Our executive clients recognize that their resume serves as a personal marketing document and are willing to invest in a service that ensures they present themselves in the best possible light.

    Simply put, our fees reflect the amount of time it takes to prepare a truly polished, professional resume and are comparable to what you could expect to pay a reputable consultant or professional services firm.

    Between the initial consultation, background research and analysis, writing process, and revisions, we typically spend 7-9 hours on a resume.

    You'll also work one-on-one with your writer every step of the way (we don’t hire ghostwriters or outsource writing internationally, for example).

    How are you qualified to write my resume?

    We are members of the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches and apply industry best practices surrounding keyword optimization, resume design, and resume writing grammar and style to our work.

    Our founder also personally reviews every resume we work on, so you can rest assured that our meticulous standards will be upheld at all times.

    What will my resume look like?

    We design our documents to adhere to the highest professional standards and to align with how executive recruiters expect to see a resume presented.

    We incorporate design elements that will make your messages visually inviting, maximize skim-value, and draw the reader’s attention to the most important information on the page.

    We believe that the best approach to resume design is to let your experience speak for itself. Your resume should not give off the impression that you are trying too hard (or that a resume writer prepared it for you).

    Because we find that they are not well received by recruiters in most professions, we do not produce documents with extensive colors, images, or graphic design. In addition, such elements aren’t always compatible with applicant tracking systems (ATS).

    Do you offer any guarantees?

    Your resume is just one component of the job search process, and as a result, we cannot guarantee that you will receive interviews or job offers as a result of using our services.

    No trustworthy resume writer can or should guarantee placement. Too many variables beyond our control—your fit for a particular role, quality of other applicants, and interview results—can influence a hiring decision.

    However, you can be confident that we will identify and highlight your strongest credentials, preparing documents that effectively communicate them to recruiters.

    Because resume writing principles and best practices are consistent across industries, we encourage you to select a resume writer primarily based on their writing skills and interviewing ability.

    If you work in a particularly niche sector, we conduct outside research to fill in any gaps in industry knowledge.

    What is your turnaround time?

    Our standard turnaround time for your drafts is 7 business days once you provide all relevant information.

    If you need a faster turnaround time, you have the option to add next-day or two-day rush service to your order:

    Next-Day Rush Service

    Our Next-Day Rush Service turnaround time for delivery of draft documents is 1 business day after you provide all relevant information and complete your consultation. You will also receive priority revisions.

    Two-Day Express Service

    Our Express Service turnaround time for delivery of draft documents is 2 business days after you provide all relevant information and complete your consultation. You will also receive priority revisions.
